Small Shops Logo
Our small independent retailers face many challenges — competition from online shopping, soaring operating costs, staffing shortages, and ongoing worries about tariffs and economic instability. At the same time, our small shops bring vibrancy to our downtowns and village centers. They're part of what makes our communities desirable places to live and work.
That's why the Charles River Regional Chamber, with support from some of our large employers, created the Small Shops program — providing free basic chamber membership to any independently owned, single-location, brick-and-mortar retailer in Newton, Needham, Watertown, or Wellesley.
Small Shops removes financial barriers for local merchants to access chamber benefits, fostering a stronger, more vibrant business ecosystem. By bringing retailers together, we promote the value of shopping locally, share best practices, and advocate for the needs of this essential segment of our economy.
Your support helps us sustain and grow this program. Every contribution ensures we can continue connecting independent merchants with the resources, relationships, and visibility they need to thrive.

"As a local, independent retailer I have benefited by being a chamber member in a myriad of ways. Networking, connecting and collaborating with fellow Chamber members has been immensely satisfying."
